About

Our Name:

Auchmithie is a fishing village that dates from the 11th century. It lies approximately 3 miles north of Arbroath. On either side of the village there are numerous caves which, in the past, were used by smugglers. It was this village that provided the setting for Sir Walter Scott’s novel The Antiquary where it was referred to as Musselcrag. The band adopted this name because Bert lives there and that is where we usually rehearse.

Who we are:

The band consists of;

Bert Cull (accordion)
Ian Ramsay (Vocals, Guitar, Banjo and Mandolin)
Tom Truesdale (Fiddle, Mandolin, Banjo and Guitar)

The Music:

We play a wide selection of Scottish music for all ceilidh dances e.g. two steps, barn dances, waltzes, strip the willow, dashing white sergeant. We also do songs and tunes for those wanting more modern dances. Our program of dances has been well received since we formed and we are sure that you will not be disappointed if you hire us. 2018 was a busy year for us. We have made return visits to the venues that booked us last year and we will be returning to some of them in 2020. 2019 started well with new venues and we expect the diary to fill quickly.
